Sunsetting Slido's Slack integration: Here's why and what's next

We're announcing today that we'll be turning off our Slack integration on November 30th.

Two years ago, we launched our Slack app to make it easier for our users to collect questions without the need to leave Slack.

I know that for some of you, the news may come as a surprise. Let me share how we came to this decision and what might come next.

🌇 Why we’re sunsetting our Slack integration

With this integration, we wanted to bring Slido closer to where you work. Despite our best efforts, it missed the mark in a few ways:

  • The feature enables users only to collect questions or ideas. If they want team members to upvote them, they have to leave Slack and do it in a browser.
  • With the current integration, users can't create and share polls in Slack.

To address these limitations and bring Slido to Slack in a way it deserves, we need to rethink our approach and build it from the ground up.

👀 What's next

First, I want to thank you for having been on this journey with us and for sharing all the comments and feedback.

After November 30th, you'll still be able to simply share a link to your Slido event, survey or poll and post it to any Slack channel.

Any data that you collected while using the Slack integration will continue to live in your existing Slido account from where you can easily export it.

Ultimately, Slido exists to help people get the most out of joining a meeting by enabling a true dialogue between the speaker and the audience. With Slack emerging as the virtual headquarters for millions of knowledge workers around the world, we'll continue to look for meaningful ways how we can bring our two products closer together. At the end of the day, we want to meet our customers where they are.

If you have any questions or comments, simply reply to this thread—we're here to help.

Hello @Juraj Pal

Our Slack community just found out about Slido and are very excited to try it out for our upcoming AMA! I see that you are sunsetting the integration on Nov 30th but is there a way to still integrate it before that time? The integration page now links back to this sunsetting announcement page.

Hey @Avery Smith, thanks for your comment. The integration will continue to be available in the Slack App Directory until November 30th so if you’d like to give it a try in the meantime, you can.

If there are any specific use cases that you are thinking of for Slido + Slack, please let us know. We want to revisit this integration at some point for sure.

Interested to see if Slack integration can happen again with new features like direct integration to Slido instead of redirecting to Slido page for Q&A, survey or poll. We heavily use chat internally for chat, social and all other integrations.  One of the main reason we opted Slido is because of slack integration. Hopefully, Slido will be bringing back the integration with Slack sometime early next year.

Thanks for the comment! Will keep you posted when we have more on this.

Hi there! One thing my team is really missing from the Slack integration was the ability to approve questions as they come in (Q&A moderation).

We open our All Hands Q&A one or two weeks before the event, and encourage folks to submit questions leading up to it. Without the Slack integration to approve questions in our slack moderation channel, it sounds like there isn’t a way to approve submitted questions right as they come in? So our team will have to frequently check back on the back end to approve or reject.  I’d love an email trigger, or a Zapier integration, or another comparable solution that would prompt me to head to the backend to approve questions as they’re submitted. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi there! Apologies for the late reply.

I’m sorry to hear that due to our sunsetting of the Slack integration you’re now experiencing more friction when using Slido.

I’m afraid we currently don’t have a solution for this - there isn’t a way to send you notifications when questions are submitted. That said, this isn’t the first time we hear this request and thanks a lot for the suggestion!

Best wishes,

Adam
