The Data team at Slido works on different aspects of data, covering everything from retrieving, storing and transforming data to analyzing and using it to train ML/AI models. You’ll join the technical Data Engineers team. We develop, maintain and provide platforms which are the foundation for other teams to build on. 
 
Interns from previous years have already completed projects like:
  • Exporting and analyzing operational data from monitoring tools like NewRelic.
  • Migrating whole sets of data-exchange pipelines between different versions of third-party tools.
  • Leading on presenting the frontend simple real-time analytics of participants’ behavior.
  • Doing quasi-real-time querying of bigger datasets from external storage within our public API.
What you will be doing:
 
You will be working as part of our Data Engineering Team as a regular team member taking full ownership of your project end-to-end. Alternatively you be involved in (hopefully without breaking!) as many things as you would like. 
 
Project Details:
  • Automating “Boring Stuff” (here are just examples and areas):
    • Setting or enhancing transfers of data between external systems and Data Warehouse (DWH). 
    • Making life easier for our analytical colleagues – improving continuous integration. pipelines, enhancing data transformations using dbt tool, etc. 
    • Scheduling various projects through Airflow.
    • Improve Superset in various ways – automatic creation and versioning of charts & dashboards, helping with keeping order in them using terraform. 
  • Living “real-time”:
    • Processing data using Spark & Kafka.
    • Help to compute real-time analytics with Clickhouse.
    • Improve exposing of data via public API.
    • Play with DuckDB in production.
  • See what day-to-day operations of data-engineering look like.
  • Additionally, You will be invited to take part in our hackathon, dev stormings, regular team stand ups and team building activities.
Who we are looking for:
  • In pursuit of a Bachelors / Masters in Computer Science or Engineering or related field.
  • You enjoy solving new technical challenges and possess a sound understanding of areas in the basic areas of Computer Science such as Algorithms, Data Structures, Databases.
  • You have a passion for coding and strive to write quality code, preferably in Python.
  • You like data, processing them and getting insights ideally in SQL.
  • The candidate must have good written and oral communication skills, be a fast learner and have the ability to adapt quickly to a fast-paced development environment.
Bonus Points:
  • Experience or interest in distributed (multi-tiered) systems, algorithms, machine learning and applications of linear algebra.
  • Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions.
  • Deal well with ambiguous/undefined problems; ability to think abstractly.
  • Previous technical internship(s) preferred.
Compensation: 12 EUR/hour 
 
The successful candidate MUST be a student based in Slovakia or Czechia for the duration of the internship (July 2024-June 2025) and available to work 20 hours per week.
